The Paintings
Beginning at age 12, Christine's first experiments with painting were in oils. Acrylic time. It was because of her Father, John Flaxman's adventurous spirit he one of the first to buy a set of this new water based acrylic paint in an artist set when it came on the market.Once he and Christine tried it, they never went back to oils.
This new paint could be thinned to use for washes of colour and half of the colours were transparent to allow overlays of tones which could be seen through. At the same time they could be used bolding to create stong drama and contrast. Christine prefers the texture of canvas to paint on because the surface allows a good grip for the paint and also has a flexibility when the paint is brushed on to it. Christine therefore
takes many months to complete a major original. Very little paint has been used
in Christine's originals and you do not see a build up of thick paint anywhere
on the surface of the painting. Because of this, Christine must apply a layer of
clear gloss acylic over the painting to seal it.
Each Original is one of a kind, inspired in an instant, but taking many
months to research and execute. From the first moment that the spark of an idea comes into Christine's mind the process begins. From that point on she sets about to fulfill this vision in paint, upon canvas. Early mushroom paintings were the earliest themes to sell in the Ontario Galleries.

The Lithographic Prints
These prints are created by "off set Lithography" which means there were etched "plates" made for the single colours created from filmwork of the original paintings.
These plates are as large as the image and a new one is placed on an ink drmb on the press for each colour added. The significant diferrence about Christine's Lithographs are that 90% of her prints were created on ONE Heidleberg press adding ONE colour at a time and washing out the ink each time before beginning to add the next colour.
Most of Chrisitne's Lithographic prints were printed in 14 to 18 colours, with some, like the 3 "Loon" editions were produced in 26 colours. Christine uses only 100% acid free fine art papers for her printing.
Giclee Prints
Since the year 2001 Christine has been producing Giclee Prints. These are prints created from a digital photograph and sent to press as a digital file. The resolution is more continuous and clear. All the colours are printed together in an "ink jet" format, but on highly professional printers which have been created for Fine Art. All of Christine Giclee prints are produced on 100% acid free fine art paper.
Edition Numbers & Sizes
Christine limited edition prints are highly prized by collectors and considered to be very exclusive, fine art prints because over 95% of her lithographic collections are in an edition size of under 300 pieces .
Signed and Numbered (S/N) refers to the fact that the print is
published in a limited edition. All Signed and Numbered prints are marked with both the artist's signature on the bottom right and the edition number assigned to the print on the bottom left. All Signed and Numbered limited edition prints come with
a Certificate of Authenticity.
The Artist Proof (A/P) edition traditionally refers to the publisher setting aside
a portion of the edition as the artist’s copies of the print run, where one of every ten was pulled for the Artist to inspect to assure that the colours were consistant throughout the run or adjust the colours if necessary. These Artist Proofs also come with a Certificate of Authenticity.
The Artists Remarqued Proof (ARP) refers to the tradition of an artist drawing or painting a small original image on the print. Christine typically creates an original mushroom sketch for these ARP's, this being her trademark and everyone is different than the others. It is drawn on the bottom right hand corner beside her name. Because these are considered as little original works of art on the print they are the most valuable of the printis.
All Remarqued Proofs come with a Certificate of Authenticity.
